Probably not as good as the much more pricey upgrades but I'm sure they do a solid enough job of smoothing out most bumps. A quite inventive solution to Girvin's yellow marshmallows going hard (or melting). Nothing wrong with the budget elastomer route I've seen.
#Noleen mega air shock rebuild kit upgrade#
It needs a shock upgrade to perform at it's peak for any length of time. Had the bike been originally fitted with Risse (or similarly acceptable) shocks instead of the elastomers that went bad after 3-5 years I think there would be a lot more appreciation for this bike. I filled up the shock with air and it now leaks. Everything went smoothly and I reassembled it using Park Polylube 1000 to grease the air seals and bushing. I disassembled it a couple of days ago to clean it. The rear suspension is great for XC and climbing which I enjoy. I have a 2001 K2 Razorback with the Noleen Mega Air pull shock. I replaced most of the oil seals (not all) and all of the air seals and it is working again. It is usually the schraeder valve seal that goes. The downside is they are a bit prone to collapse in sand/soft loamy soil if you over steer. a) air seals: pressurise the shock and dump it in a basin of water if you see bubbles you need to change the air seals. The 95-97 Pro-Flex's are among my favorite FS rides. There is a US seller that may have those still. Might need a rebuild kit for the fork and the rear. I've seen people use budget elastomers for riding lawnmowers (or some such thing) or Risse probably makes some of the higher priced options. There are various options for shock replacement.
